THE WORLD must wake up to the "national security threat" of UFOs, campaigners have said, as the UK Ministry of Defence appears to have all but dismissed the upcoming report by the Pentagon.
UFO hunters have called on Britain to face up to the fact that there may be mysterious and super advanced objects of unknown origin operating in our airspace after a series of stunning admissions by the US.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is being urged to follow the lead of the US who are expected to today release a historic intelligence report compiled by the Pentagon on the highly stigmatising phenomena.
UFOs have stepped from fringe conspiracy theories into a serious national security debate after leaked footage emerged showing encounters between mystery objects and US fighter pilots.
Pilots have since gone public and told stories of seeing objects which appear to defy the conventional understanding of how aircraft move.
Referring to them as Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAPs), the US set up the UAP Task Force and last December commissioned the historic dossier from the Director of National Intelligence.
And yet despite the close relationship between the US and the UK, the MoD has kept rather quiet and has all but washed its hands of the issue.
MoD sources told The Sun Online that the department does not have a "proactive interest" in the upcoming US report by the task force.
However, the source added: "Should anything affect the security of the UK then we would take an interest."
It has previously been reported the UK may relaunch its UFO hunter unit -depending on what the Americans say in their report expected this afternoon.
And an official spokesman told The Sun Online that the MoD has not received an advance copy of the report and they "wouldn't comment on the findings or on the actual report from another nation".
The stance however has disappointed many UFO campaigners who are awaiting the release of the highly anticipated dossier as they hope for a paradigm shift in the way the topic is discussed in the UK.

US lawmakers, former defence officials, NASA chiefs, and even former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton have all acknowledged the UFO issue.
And former insider Lue Elizondo - who headed up the Pentagon's previous UFO programme - has gone public and pushed for disclosure.
Yet the stigma remains in the UK and in other nations worldwide.
Britain has been urged to take the lead and join the US in appearing to accept the apparent presence of UFOs.
And while for now the objects appear to be true unknowns, it has been reported that the US is set to not rule out an alien origin.
Former cop turned UFO investigator Gary Heseltine told The Sun Online: "I believe that the UK should should create it's own task force to look at the UAP issue.
"I suspect that would only happen if the US authorities want that to happen.
"The UK has always followed America's lead on this subject."
The three decade force veteran recently helped set up ICER, an international coalition from 27 countries calling for full disclosure on UFOS.
He added: "Whatever happens today is just another big step towards a disclosure world.
"The genie is out the bottle and the more there is scrutiny, scientific research conducted into the phenomenon, the more ICER is confident that in the final assessment the conclusion will be at some point in the near future, that we are dealing with extraterrestrial/non-human intelligences engaging with Planet Earth."
Nick Pope, who worked in MoD's now closed UFO office in the 90s, told The Sun Online: "It's outrageous that the MoD is so reluctant to engage on something that the US government has clearly identified as a threat to national security.
"There's something in our skies, faster, more manoeuvrable, and capable of more rapid acceleration than any military jet aircraft - if that's not a defence issue, I don't know what is.
"It's time for the MoD to invoke the Special Relationship, get hold of the report to Congress - especially the classified annex - and set up its own task force to deal with this issue.
"Who is operating these craft? Is it Russia, China, or someone else? What are they doing? Is there a threat? If there is a threat, how do we deal with it? These questions need urgent answers.
"If the Americans are worried, we should be worried too."
Dave Partridge, from UFO advocacy group UAP Media UK, told The Sun Online: "Interest in the subject of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena is increasing exponentially within media outlets and the general public.
"With the imminent release of the UAP Task Force report through the United States Department of Defense, we remain hopeful that, despite years of silence, the MoD may be open to discussions in the near future.
"If we are to even begin to understand this phenomena then relevant data has to be made available for analysis.
UAP Media UK's Graeme Rendall, an aviation historian, added: "For many years now, in terms of the UAP issue in the UK, the MOD has steadily maintained its stance that there have been 'no matters arising of defence interest'.
'CLEARLY ABSURD DENIALS'
"Given the multiple reports of mysterious craft, including the object noted at Calvine in Scotland in August 1990, this position appears untenable.
"We hope that the classified findings of the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force's report to the Senate Select Committee for Intelligence will be shared with their Five Eyes allies, including the UK intelligence community.
"If so, we hope this will lead to a re-evaluation of the MOD's position on the UAP question. Should the Americans confirm there is an issue that requires investigation, a continuing MOD denial would clearly be absurd."
UAP Media UK also offered their services to any MPs or ministers who may be interested in opening up the UFO discussion in Britain.
What is going on with UFOs in the US?
UFOS have stepped from fringe conspiracy theories to a genuine national security debate in the US.
Pentagon officials last year took the unprecedented step to confirm a trio of remarkable videos which showed US encounters with UFOs.
The debate is still open as to what the phenomena caught on film were - but it made clear to everyone, something is in the skies.
Perhaps the most striking was a video known as the "Tic Tac" - which showed an unidentified object being pursued by fighter planes.
The US also confirmed the existence of the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP) - a Pentagon programme set up to study UFOs before being disbanded in 2017.
However, it was replaced by the UAP Task Force in June 2020 after a vote by the US Senate Intelligence Committee.
Defence chiefs have since confirmed a number of leaked UFO videos and photos which were submitted to the Task Force for investigation.
Why this sudden rush for transparency?
No outside the secretive wings of the US government currently knows for sure.
And as a tacked on addendum to a 5,500 page Covid relief bill passed in December, the the Director of National Intelligence's office was ordered to compile a report on UFOs within 180 days.
Former intelligence director John Ratcliffe has hinted the report will be a big deal - and we now just over a month away from its release.
The five month deadline elapses on in June, with some UFO lobbyists claiming it could be the "most profound moment in human history".
US intelligence services officially closed the book on the UFO phenomena in 1969 at the conclusion Project Blue Book - which stated there was nothing to see.
However, in the last three years there has been an abrupt turnaround as the Pentagon took the unprecedented step of confirming three stunning leaked UFO videos filmed by the US Navy.
And the UFO report - which was commissioned by Congress - is being compiled by the UAP Task Force, who were given a 180 day deadline in December which is due to expire today, June 25.
Competing theories on the strange videos continue to rage - with some grounded on Earth claiming the videos capture never-before-seen military aircraft or drones, while others claim it shows otherworldly craft possibly piloted by aliens.
