It is coming up on a year since Charlie Kirk was assassinated - the right word, since this was not merely a murder. We do not use "assassination" to describe ordinary murders, as for example when a thug breaks into someone's home and murders the people within. Assassination are done for political reasons, not economic reasons.
Charlie Kirk did not hold any office but he was the leader of a movement and - had he not been assassinated - it is very possible he might have run for office (and won).

On 18 August 2026, I was on "Judging Freedom" talking with the Judge about the Iran war, Israel's never-ending outrageous behavior, the Ukraine war, and President Trump's increasingly erratic behavior, all thoroughly depressing subjects. Given that 1) Trump is destined to suffer a devastating defeat in Iran, 2) Ukraine & the West are almost certain to lose the Ukraine war, and 3) he has no hope of getting the Israelis to accept his peace plan for Gaza, it seems likely that Trump's behavior will become even more erratic in the months ahead.

You know the story: a Cambridge academic, Jason Arday, was found to have plagiarized his dissertation, borrowed heavily from others in his published articles, produced essentially worthless research, called the police on a reporter and on a professor who asked questions about his resume, invented wild tales of athletic and academic achievement as well as philanthropic work, and (of course) accused his critics of "racism." And then, late last week, he was found dead at his home in an apparent suicide.
