Last week, President Donald Trump commemorated income tax payments being due by having DoorDash deliver food from McDonald's to the White House. The delivery was intended to highlight the first year of tax-free tips. Removing tax on tips was part of the 2025 Big Beautiful Bill (BBB).

As the sponsor of the first No Tax on Tips legislation introduced in Congress, I was obviously pleased to see this change in tax laws included in the BBB.

President Trump's obscene Easter Day social post was ingenious for its timing. No one on planet earth would miss it. Was it the art of the deal at work by its most famous practitioner or was it something else ? Since he promised Iranians would be "living in Hell" if they didn't "open the F-ing Strait," it's understandable if for some people his threat meant nuclear annihilation.

On Friday, April 17, 2026, President Donald Trump posted a flurry of optimistic messages on Truth Social (and referenced in interviews) framing the US-Iran war as largely over or nearing a swift resolution. His claims centered on the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, progress toward a broader peace deal, and US leverage. Most of what Trump wrote was forcefully denied by Iran (see image above).

In yesterday's summarization of the state of the war on Iran I had warned that the announced ceasefire and re-opening of the Strait of Hormuz was standing on a fragile base:

After the announcement of the original ceasefire the U.S. [had] announced a blockade of all shipping to, from, and related to Iran. Earlier today Iran had hinted that it will close the Bab-al Mandeb entry into the Red Sea should the U.S.
