The claim by these libertarians was that, aside from obvious exceptions like eminent domain and tariffs, he was basically sympathetic to the free market. Unfortunately, these hopes have not been fulfilled, and in this week's article, I'll try to show this. Before going ahead, though, I'd like to avert a possible misunderstanding.

As has been reported, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will yet again be in Washington on Monday December 29^th. It is a visit that initial media reports claimed had been requested by Trump, which would underline the value of the relationship to the US president. Nevertheless, there have also been some suggestions that Netanyahu, working through his Embassy in Washington and employing the considerable resources of the domestic US Israel Lobby, might have been the real force behind the fifth such meeting in Washington this year plus an additional meeting on October 13^th in Israel to celebrate the non-ceasefire with Gaza which was being promoted as some kind of victory.

As we enter 2026, the ever-widening war is further widening. Russian foreign minister Lavrov accuses the European Union of escalating the conflict and preparing for war with Russia. As a fifth year of conflict begins, Russian president Putin's limited military operation is expanding into a general conflict between Europe and Russia. The EU has raised apparently from loans from banks approximately $100 billion to enable Ukraine to continue the conflict while Europe builds up it's military capability to directly enter the war with Russia.
