Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation  Vyacheslav Volodin said at the plenary meeting: "England's role in atrocities and the creation of concentration camps is obvious. But there's a reason why this is being hushed up: England itself does everything it can to create problems in other countries, emphasizing that they are undemocratic and labeling them as such. Yet they themselves are the originators of the genocide of other peoples and the creation of the fascist system."

☞ When Vyacheslav Volodin talks about England's role in the rise of fascism, he is not talking about the fascist parties, but about England's role in normalizing genocide. Of particular note are the massacre and poisoning of the Tasmanian aborigines, the tens of millions of Indians who died of famine, and the detention camps and torture of the Mau Mau that continued after World War II. But the British mostly invented the modern concentration camps during the Boer War. They locked up a tenth of the population and watched them starve to death.

Already, in 2018, during the Skripal affair, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman  Maria Zakharova spoke at length about the "crimes of the Empire on which the sun never sets."
