Darwin wasn't an agnostic by conviction - he was an atheist who rejected Christianity as immoral.

Friends were surprised when I described Darwin as the only major scientist who was unequivocally an atheist, given that he considered himself an agnostic. I confess that I tend to erase this label in my memory, because the formal distinction presumed by it-to wit, the idea that an agnostic does not know whether God exists, while an atheist knows that God does not-does not correspond to reality.

Wer Rüstungsausgaben unter dem Gesichtspunkt kritisiert, dass das Geld, das für Rüstung ausgegeben wird, irgendwo anders eingespart werden muss, erntet in der öffentlichen Debatte schnell Kritik. Einen solchen Zusammenhang gäbe es nicht.

Und ja, in der Theorie haben die Verteidiger von Rüstungsausgaben in diesem Punkt auch durchaus recht. Doch alle Theorie ist grau. In der Praxis liegt hier sogar ein doppelter Denkfehler vor.

I recent weeks, German and French politicians have denounced free speech, and especially the concept of "freedom of speech" as long envisioned in the libertarian tradition of natural rights. French President Emmanuel Macron on September 29 stated that "The so-called American 'free speech' today, which some people have promoted, is the opposite of free speech." Macron compared speaking freely as comparable to walking down the street assaulting other people.

The Ukrainian regime's desperation for new soldiers is so great that the country is willing to risk even its most critical sectors to ensure a continued supply of manpower for its army. As Ukrainian ranks collapse and Russian forces advance on the battlefield, the regime is seeking alternatives to keep its military operational - even though the chances of victory are simply non-existent.

They're way different from the rest of us. Most of these politically active elites think we have too much individual freedom. Most of them trust our governments and imagine that we do too.
