You must vote for Republicans in the midterm election, we were told by conservative think tanks, television personalities, commentators, and churches or all kinds of evils would result.
The way I see it, there are three reasons why Americans voted for Republicans in the recent election.
First, there are those who actually think that Republicans merit our vote.
A perfect example is Deroy Murdock, a Manhattan-based Fox News contributor and a contributing editor with The American Spectator. Writing for the Daily Signal, a conservative news site, Murdock maintains that "President Donald Trump and the GOP Congress have secured major public-policy victories that merit two more years of Republican rule." The economy is growing, violent crime is down, and the One Big Beautiful Bill contains "the largest tax reduction in history." He has special praise for the Trump Accounts that "let the parents of 5.5 million children born from 2025 through 2028 set aside tax-preferred savings until their sons and daughters control these funds at age 18"-even though "the U.S. Treasury has seeded some 1.4 million of these accounts with $1,000 each."
Murdock is deluded along with all the other Trump sycophants. Any "good" that Trump and the Republicans have done has been more than offset by the bad and the really bad. No wonder that Murdock didn't mention that the federal budget deficit nearly reached $2 trillion for fiscal year 2026 and that interest payments on the national debt have exceeded $1 trillion for the first time. Murdock is also mistaken about tax provisions in the OBBB. He claims that "no tax on Social Security empowered 23.5 million elderly filers to deduct $177.7 billion, or an average $7,562 per 1040 form." The OBBB did not eliminate taxes on Social Security. The OBBBA institutes, for tax years 2025 through 2028, "a new bonus deduction of $6,000 for seniors age 65 and older ($12,000 for married seniors)." This deduction "is on top of the standard deduction and the current-law additional deduction for seniors." Up to 85 percent of Social Security benefits are still subject to taxation. Republicans are big spenders just like Democrats.
The second reason why Americans voted for Republicans is to keep those evil Democrats out of office.
Now, it is certainly true that the Democratic Party is the party of liberalism, progressivism, collectivism, socialism, paternalism, statism, abortion on demand (at taxpayer expense for low-income women), the transgender movement and "gender affirming care" for minors, feminism, social justice warriors, larger and more intrusive government, organized labor, increased government regulation of the economy and society, public education, government-mandated employee benefits, climate change hysteria, green energy mandates, universal healthcare, more anti-discrimination laws, more welfare with fewer work requirements, DEI and affirmative action, higher taxes on "the rich," and government-funded child care, healthcare, and education as constitutional rights.
But once Republicans get into office, who will keep us from their evils ? How quickly conservatives forget that when George W. Bush was the president, the Republicans gave us the Department of Homeland Security, the TSA, the Iraq war, the surveillance state, and the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act-the largest expansion of Medicare since the program began in 1965. Republicans are powerless against socialism because they are great proponents of socialized education, socialized medicine, socialized charity, socialized services, and the greatest socialistic program of all, Social Security.
The third reason why Americans voted for Republicans is because voting for Republicans is voting for biblical values.
This is something that many conservative, evangelical, and fundamentalist Christians believe. But is it actually true ? By biblical values is usually meant opposition to abortion, gay marriage, and the transgender movement and support for restoring prayer and Bible reading in public schools, posting the 10 Commandments in public schools, and removing objectionable books from public school libraries. Sometimes things like opposition to marijuana legalization and support for school vouchers are included.
These Christians are very selective when it comes to biblical values. Most Republicans with biblical values have no problem with the nefarious actions of the NSA, TSA, CIA, FBI, and ICE as long as they are done in the name of keeping Americans safe from illegal immigrants, terrorists, and foreign boogeymen. Most Republicans with biblical values have no problem with the extra-judicial murder via lethal, kinetic strikes of "narco-terrorists" in international waters who were supposedly transporting drugs to the United States. Most Republicans with biblical values have no problem with the senseless and unjust war against Iran. Most Republicans with biblical values have no problem with a reckless, belligerent, and meddling U.S. foreign policy and the U.S. military that bombs, maims, and kills to carry it out. It is not enough to say that because you oppose abortion, gay marriage, and the transgender agenda that you are standing for biblical values. And it is ridiculous to say that you are pro-life when you support the killing of foreigners who were no threat to the United States.
Republicans are horrible, and deserved to lose, as Ron Paul recently said. Voting for the lesser of two evils (if that is actually true) is still voting for evil. And Republicans are sorely lacking in biblical values. This is why I do not and cannot vote for Republicans. This, of course, does not mean that I vote for Democrats or think that they are any better than Republicans. I don't vote at all, and gave twenty reasons why after the midterm election of 2016. I am an equal opportunity despiser of Democratic and Republican politicians.
No matter which party controls the Congress, Americans are screwed.
