The allegation that President Maduro ran a drug cartel was front and center in the months leading up to President Maduro's "arrest." Afterwards, President Trump said the invasion was about Venezuela's oil and announced plans for the US government to send American oil companies into Venezuela.

When the story first broke, my initial impression was that some silly woman had decided to engage in some impromptu LARPing, got in over her head, panicked, and got herself shot. Others opined that she had been murdered.

I have never been a fan of former astronaut Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ), but, of course, I have never been a fan of any Democratic senator for at least the past 50 years. And for the record, I should add that have always loathed the vast majority of Republican senators as well. About the only current Republican member of the Senate that I have any respect for is Rand Paul of Kentucky.

Back when I was a young child, I used to enjoy watching my Saturday morning cartoons, and they were often quite amusing.

More decades have passed than I'd like to consider and my memories are garbled, but I recall that those cartoons occasionally featured a character called something like Ugh the Cave-Man.

Ugh was always casually dressed in a one-piece leopard-skin sarong and he walked around with a gigantic club slung over one shoulder.

According to news reports President Trump has said that Greenland is necessary to US national security and has ordered the US military to prepare for an invasion of Greenland.

There is no reference to a national security document that supports Trump's claim that Greenland is necessary for US national security. An invasion of Greenland would be an act of war and under the US Constitution would require a declaration of war by the US Congress.

Donald Trump has finally done it. Earned the respect of The New York Times and other powerful organs of our state controlled media. CNN unquestioningly parrots the line that "the U.S. runs Venezuela." So, let's get this straight- we abducted the leader of another sovereign nation, bombed them, but it wasn't an act of war. It was justified.

Don't suggest that this is something new.

It's just been a nonstop onslaught. As soon as they knock out one disobedient government or population, they're on the to next.

The "Trump Doctrine" is all about the US' continued military overmatch vis-à-vis China together with placing the US in a position where it can complementarily deny China access to the energy and markets that it requires to maintain its growth and thus its superpower trajectory.

Trump 2.0's grand strategy has become much clearer over the past month since the US bombed ISIS in Nigeria on Christmas, executed its astoundingly successful "special military operation" in Venezuela, and is now threatening new strikes against Iran on the pretext of supporting anti-government protesters.

Vatican II and the pontificate of Francis preceded declines in priests and seminarians, respectively, while the numbers of traditional priests continue to steadily rise.
