Winston Churchill, for all his triumphs and successes, was probably the man most responsible for the early and rapid collapse of the British empire....What brought the British empire down as rapidly and terribly as it did was world War 2. In my opinion, WW2 was exactly what Churchill called it "The Unnecessary War". And the fatal blunder was the decision in panic of the British government after Czechoslovakia fell apart in March, 1939, was to give an unsolicited war guarantee to a collection of Polish colonels who had a romantic view of their own warlike capacities, who participated in the breakup of Czechoslovakia, and Britain gave them this guarantee to back them in a cause -control of Danzig- where they thought the Germans were fundamentally right.

For drone operators, screens, controllers, video feed, enemy troops or even civilians are all "lifeless" data that will appear again tomorrow, just like it does in video games. All this tricks them into thinking that actual warfare is much closer to the simulated environments they became so accustomed to as gamers. In other words, for them, the very act of killing fellow human beings might not seem real.

In many cases, we're actually only "renting" the functional / monetary value of what we "own," and that makes the value of "ownership" far less certain than we might imagine.

What we "own" seems straightforward, but it's actually slippery. Yes, we own what we have a deed or copyright for, but we only "rent" the valuation the market assigns to what we own.

Washington has a disastrous debt problem. And yet, President Donald Trump wants more room to borrow.

According to The Hill, Trump is pushing to extend the federal debt ceiling through the end of his presidency. That would require roughly another $5 trillion in borrowing authority.

The contrast with his old promises is striking.

When running for president in 2016, Trump said he could wipe out the entire $19 trillion national debt within eight years.

To be "written is blood," meant (and still means) to make binding. God himself called the New Testament, written in His blood, an everlasting testament.

Ces questions sont d'autant plus pertinentes que le cadre général du NCAG reflète la même logique technocratique et imposée de l'extérieur qui caractérise désormais la proposition internationale dominante pour la reconstruction de Gaza : une approche qui la traite comme un simple exercice technique de gestion de catastrophe, reléguant au second plan la souveraineté palestinienne, le retour des réfugiés et l'autodétermination.

Athena Rayburn, directrice exécutive de l'Association des agences de développement international (AIDA), qui représente plus de 100 ONG humanitaires et de développement dans le territoire palestinien occupé, a dénoncé auprès du Conseil de sécurité de l'ONU les restrictions à l'aide humanitaire entrant à Gaza.
